What affects the price
- Existing wiring or a new cable run
- Socket type and weather protection
- Access, wall construction, cable distance, and making good
- Number installed during the same visit
What’s included
- A standard socket and straightforward installation labour
- Connection to a suitable circuit and electrical testing
Good to know
How long does it take? A straightforward socket installation often takes one to two hours; new cable routes or difficult access take longer.
Do I need one? Add sockets when permanent outlets are needed in safer or more practical positions; an electrician should first confirm the existing circuit has capacity.
Before you book, read how to check an electrician is qualified.
How to pay less
- Install several sockets during one visit
- Confirm making good and certification
- Compare itemised written quotes on the same scope
Replacement, extra point or new circuit?
Replacing a damaged fitting keeps the existing position, but the electrician still needs to check the cause and circuit condition. Adding a new socket means agreeing its position and cable route on a suitable circuit. Work needing a new circuit is a different scope, with board capacity, protective devices and certification to establish. A per-socket guide price does not make these three jobs equivalent.
What to tell the electrician before a quote
Give the number and positions of sockets, the intended appliances, socket specification and whether this is a home or business premises. Send photos of the wall and visible existing fittings without removing covers. Explain access, wall finish and any power interruption restrictions. Ask who repairs chasing, plaster and final decoration, and which certificate and testing are included. Describe the job through Tradehand to request a quote for the actual socket work.
