The ServiceM8 alternative for UK sole traders who want more work, not tidier admin.

Few people leave ServiceM8 because it manages jobs badly. They leave because the plan is tiered by jobs a month, the Android app is Lite, and call answering is a separate ServiceM8 Phone subscription.

What growth looks like on a Tuesday

The same missed call, handled without your phone.

ServiceM8 offers editable AI quotes and invoices. Tradehand carries the call through quoting, booking and payment follow-up.

Leaving ServiceM8 without losing your records

Run both, and cancel ServiceM8 only once the alternative has earned it.

  1. Day 1

    Export customers and prices

Pull your customer list and price list out of ServiceM8. Keep the account for history.

  2. Day 1

    A person does the import

A person imports your customers and prices, then sets up your number, rates and diary.

  3. Day 2 to 7

    Judge it on jobs won

Calls to the Tradehand business number ring the saved staff phone first. A missed mobile gets one text in the business name. A missed landline reaches the assistant. Tradehand does not take over a number the business already uses.

Your questions

What is the best ServiceM8 alternative in the UK?

Tradehand, if you want more booked work: Tradehand answers missed calls, quotes, books and chases. Free includes the manual tools and the Assistant with £1 of usage a month: 5% of each payment Tradehand takes, card fees included. Paid plans from £19 a month, billed yearly. They add automation and more usage. Basic payment fees on your own jobs: From 1.25% + 20p, deducted automatically when the customer pays. Grow and Advanced have lower Tradehand payment fees. Tradify for accounting sync, Powered Now for certificates.

Why do UK trades leave ServiceM8?

ServiceM8 plans are tiered by jobs a month, so the bill rises when trade picks up. The ServiceM8 Android app is Lite, and ServiceM8 call answering costs extra.

ServiceM8 has a free plan, so why pay for anything?

ServiceM8 Free covers one user and thirty jobs a month, quoting, invoicing, ten AI helper uses a day, and quote and payment follow-ups. More users or jobs require a paid core tier; phone answering requires an eligible separate ServiceM8 Phone subscription.

Is Tradehand cheaper than ServiceM8?

Free includes the manual tools and the Assistant with £1 of usage a month: 5% of each payment Tradehand takes, card fees included. Paid plans from £19 a month, billed yearly. They add automation and more usage. Basic payment fees on your own jobs: From 1.25% + 20p, deducted automatically when the customer pays. Grow and Advanced have lower Tradehand payment fees. ServiceM8 charges monthly by job volume, paid whether or not those jobs get paid.

Can I move my data from ServiceM8 to Tradehand?

Tradehand imports your customers and price list, done for you by a person. Tradehand does not import historic jobs, so keep your ServiceM8 account for reference.

Does ServiceM8 answer my phone?

Yes, with an eligible separate ServiceM8 Phone Connect Plus or revised Unlimited subscription. Phone eligibility is independent of the core Free plan. Core AI quoting and invoicing allow ten uses a day on Free, unlimited on paid core plans. Tradehand drafts quotes from your rates and holds them when approval is required.

Does ServiceM8 work properly on Android?

ServiceM8 says its Android app does not have all the powerful functionality of the iOS app. The Tradehand trader app runs the full day on either.

Does Tradehand work with Xero or QuickBooks?

Tradehand pushes invoices one way into Xero and QuickBooks, plus a CSV export. That push is not a sync, and not yet for VAT registered companies.
