The short answer

Match the purchase to the work: focused certificate entry, cloud team review or the ongoing job around the report.

Job and certificate
Tradehand · Manual certificates and the Assistant on Free; paid plans add automation and more usage.
Tablet/desktop entry
Pro Certs · £9.99 monthly or £19.99 quarterly; offline work advertised.
Phone/browser review
Certly · £14.99/month +VAT; offline work still in development.
Cloud and AI entry
Tradecert · £18/month +VAT; compare extra users and tokens.

Try a complete report and handover

Use a representative inspection you are competent to undertake. Set the correct installation and client details, agreed extent and limitations. Enter the actual inspection/test findings, add observations and supporting photos, then review the finished report, signatures and PDF. Check that the person who receives the report is the instructed recipient.

For an office handover, keep the report reference and issued revision with the job, who received it and any separate next action. Remedial work needs its own scope and decision; issuing a report does not approve a remedial quote. Test your exact device, connectivity and colleague access before moving the business.

Free EICR software and blank forms

A blank form is useful for recording the report on paper; software adds entry, storage and export. Keep those choices separate.

SpeedCert, checked 30 September 2026, advertises free unlimited certificates and basic PDF export. TestFast advertises up to eight electrical reports a month and unlimited PAT on Free. Richer output, AI or unlimited manual reports can have separate paid terms.

Booking an inspection rather than writing the report

If you are a landlord or agent arranging an inspection, find a competent electrician. Get a quote for the inspection. This software comparison is for the person preparing the report.

Keep the EICR with the job

Write the certificate on site and keep the signed PDF with the job. Manual certificates are included on Free.

Frequently asked questions

Which EICR software should a sole trader choose?

Choose by your report, device and job workflow. Pro Certs suits focused tablet/desktop certification; Certly offers phone/browser work; Tradecert meters AI entry; iCertifi has separate original and Cloud Pro editions. Tradehand includes manual certificates on Free and keeps the report with the job.

How much does Tradecert cost?

Tradecert’s 7 October 2026 pricing page lists £18/month plus VAT, £7 per additional user and free office users. It includes 250 monthly AI tokens; extra tokens are 2p each. A subscription is required to download PDFs.

Is there free EICR software?

Tradehand includes manual certificates on Free. SpeedCert, checked 30 September 2026, advertises free unlimited certificates and basic PDF export; TestFast advertises up to eight electrical reports monthly and unlimited PAT on its free plan. A blank PDF is a form rather than software.

Does an app decide whether an installation is safe?

The competent inspector performs the inspection and testing and checks the completed report. Software records the findings; an AI-generated field needs verification just like a manually entered field.

What should I test before switching?

Use your real device to enter a representative report, record limitations and observations, attach evidence, review/sign and export the PDF. Test colleague access and retain your issued reports before moving data.
